45th anniversary of Eifman Ballet

A series of performances in Moscow as part of the Company's anniversary celebrations

At the end of July, the long-awaited tour of Eifman Ballet took place on the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. The Company pleased the audience with the Moscow premiere of the 2022 production The Seagull. A Ballet Story (July 27 and 28), as well as with the choreographic hit Rodin, Her Eternal Idol (July 29). The performances were held as part of the Chereshnevy Les Open-Art Festival and were dedicated to the 45th anniversary of Eifman Ballet.

The Seagull. A Ballet Story is the ninth premiere that Eifman Ballet brought to Moscow in partnership with the Festival. The fruitful cooperation with Chereshnevy Les began in 2012 with the performance of the ballet Rodin, Her Eternal Idol, and ten years later the Company again presented the production about the great French sculptors and their tragic love to the Moscow audience.
"We have before us a more scrupulous return to Chekhov's original source, which, according to the choreographer, has not let him go for years, it is a landmark work, on a topic biographically close to Eifman: about how different artists realize themselves in art in different ways."
(Moskovsky Komsomolets about the production The Seagull. A Ballet Story)
"Eifman never staged productions ad hoc. His ballets are made by suffering. They are the result of sleepless nights, deep reflections about people, their characters and actions. To a large extent, these are ballets about himself. The Seagull provides excellent scope for the artist's confession about his torments and triumphs, the bloody happiness of the creator."
